Our Team Members
Bill Wang is currently an 8th grader at Burleigh Manor Middle School. This is his first time being in an FTC team. He is the Technical Manager, designer, and builder of team 14185, RICE.He has been involved in FIRST programs since 2011 participating in FLL junior and FLL in team Happy World for 3 years. During those 3 years, he worked on building, and programming. He learned basic block programing in FLL and worked on building with his coaches.This is his first year doing FTC. Bill participates in outreach programs and works on robot design while building. He is skilled in Python, HTML, block program for EV3, Scratch Block Programming, 3D designing in Tinkercad, and 3D designing in Solidworks. His contributions include the drivetrain, robot arm, the intake system, team marker holder, and the hanging mechanism. Bill practices badminton, guitar, soccer, and make interesting things in his free time.
Enoch Li is currently 14 years old. He is in 8th grade and goes to Ellicott Mills Middle School.He is really excited to be on this FTC team. He has participated in FIRST since 5th grade . He has done FLL in 6th and 5th grade in a FLL team # 7065 called Silver Cyborgs. He was the programmer for that team.He enjoyed FLL and decided to continue his journey in the FIRST program. He joined team 14185 called R.I.C.E this year to participate in FTC. This is his first year doing FTC. He enjoys the roles he gets to play in this team. He helps program and build the robot. He has experience with Java and Python. He loves to share out ideas and help others.He the driver and the captain of this team. Some things that he enjoys, besides FTC, are reading, playing basketball, and video games.
Jack Shi is a 13 year old attending Burleigh Manor Middle School.Jack has never participated before in FIRST programs, including FLL and FLL Jr. Before coming to team 14185 R.I.C.E, he had little to no knowledge of the FIRST programs. As an elementary schooler, Jack was not particularly interested in STEM, as he did not know much about it, but after his first year in middle school, he grew to like it. As stated before, this is Jack’s first year doing FTC, and he is currently a builder and driver for the team. Outside of building, Jack helps in writing the engineer notebook and with outreach. Jack’s contributions to the team include operating the robotic arm, help making the drive train and arm, and writing the engineer notebook. Some of his hobbies include swimming, basketball, violin, and math.In addition to participating in FTC, Jack also does a number of extra curriculars, such as MathCounts, debate, and Chinese school.
James Lee is currently 13 years old. He is in 8th grade and goes to Ellicott Mills Middle School.He has some experience with coding and programming in Java, C++ and Python. This is the first time he has been involved with FIRST and is very excited to be included with this great team for FTC. He is in team 14185 called R.I.C.E. He helps and specializes in programming for the robots basic functions. Some things that he enjoys besides programming is soccer, video games and taking apart old laptops. He also knows how to play the clarinet, piano and a little bit of bass guitar. He will be attending Centennial High School Next year for 9th grade. He hopes to be more prepared for FTC in high school and wishes to have more experience in this area.
Jesse Zong is currently an 8th grader attending Burleigh Manor Middle School. This is his first year participating in FTC, although he does have a year of FLL under his belt as well as previous experience with computer science. He has attended and done very well at multiple code slam competitions, building experience in Javascript, Html, and Python. He also regularly participates in STEM-related activities, such as the STEM festival, which occurs every four years in Washington DC. As a new member of the FTC #14185 R.I.C.E. team, he has been contributing mainly as a programmer for the robot, successfully setting up the driver controls, with input from his team. Outside of FTC, Jesse enjoys many activities. He teaches martial arts in the leadership program at his local kungfu school and also participates in tennis. He enjoys studying STEM, such as being a competitor in Mathcounts for Burleigh Manor, Competing in the Science Olympiad team, as well as participating in the It’s Academic program, which includes NAQT and History Bowl/Bee. Finally, Jesse is an active participant at his local Chinese school, taking high-level Chinese there. In order to better contribute to his community, he is the treasurer of the SGA there, actively keeping track of money and doing fundraisers. Overall, just like every other member of the team, Jesse is an important asset and contributes greatly.
Jessica Li is currently a 7th grader at Clarksville Middle School. This is her first time officially being on an FTC team. She was in FLL for 3 years. During those 3 years, she worked on fundraising, made videos, built the robot, and programmed.From September 2017 to 2018 February, Jessica was helping the FTC #12908, The Mystical Rainbows. She helped to make movies for the the team using microsoft windows movie maker software.She is the autonomous programmer on the team. She has experience in python and FTC block programming.
Justin Yu is a 7th grader at Burleigh Manor Middle school. He is 12 years old.He has been involved in FIRST programs since 2016, participating in FLL’s Animal Allies and Hydrodynamics. During those two years, he was a builder on team’s Pixel Owls and Tidal Bots. He learned basic block programing in FLL and worked on outreach with his teammates.This is his first year doing FTC, and is the team’s builder. Justin participates in outreach programs and works on robot design while building. His contributions include the robot arm, and the hanging mechanism. Justin practices karate, plays tennis, and plays video games in his free time.
Rachel Zhao is currently an 8th grader at Burleigh Manor Middle School. This is her first time being in FTC and joined #14185 R.I.C.E. team. She had three years experience with FIRST and participated in FLL teams during 2014 - 2017 for the following challenges: 2014 World Class, 2015 Trash Trek, 2016 Animal Allies. During those three years, she made videos about the team, did research about owls, and built a GPS tracker to help track sick owls. She also volunteered at the Inner Harbor. This year, she worked on the business plan and marketing, along with the engineering notebook. Rachel plays tennis, sings with Peabody Children’s Chorus, and plays the viola in her free time.
Stephanie Gao is currently in seventh grade at Burleigh Manor Middle School and this is her first year doing FTC, however she has been in the FLL team Silver Cyborgs from 2014 to 2017, starting as a fourth grader. During her few years in FLL, she has completed numerous research projects and created videos according to the theme of the year. Stephanie is the business plan captain of the team and also helps out with the engineering notebook. She also helped create the base and the head of the mascot. Often she participates in outreach programs to tell others about the influence of FIRST.Though Stephanie has never been one of the main builders or programmers, she has helped create simple mechanisms in FLL and attended a short review class on FTC’s block programming.She plays saxophone in the Burleigh Manor Middle School music program as well as GT Band. Her other hobbies are playing soccer, basketball, piano, and drawing.
Ryan Zou is currently in 7th grade at Burleigh Manor Middle School, and is 13 years old. This is his first year in FTC, but he has participated in FIRST since 5th grade, in FLL. He works on the outreach and also helps build the robot.
